FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q:  Where are you located?
A:  My ZIP code is 08332, that can give you a rough idea of how long it will take you to get here using Mapquest or a similar tool.  Since the address is my home address, I do not publish it on the site.  When you wish to make an appointment, we will speak and I will give you my address before your appointment.  Not trying to sound paranoid, but puppy theft is a big problem these days.  I live on a farm on a very secluded street and do not wish to have people just stopping in when I am not home, or worse.  Thanks for understanding.

Q:  Is "Toby" still available?
A:  YES.  Any pup listed on the website is available.  As soon as they are sold, the site is updated with a picture of them going home with their new family.

Q:  What age are the pups old enough to go to their new homes?
A:  By law, 8 weeks is the youngest a pup can go home.  In most cases, I wait until 10, due to the fact that my pups are so tiny and require extra attention.  If a pup is particularly small, sometimes it can be 12 weeks or later.  All pups on the site are ready to go to their new homes UNLESS noted otherwise.

Q: How big will this dog be?
A:  There is NO possible way to get an EXACT adult weight, but there are a few ways we can estimate.  The rule of thumb is that most "small breed" puppies, will triple their weight at 8 weeks, and double it at 12 weeks.  Meaning, if a pups weighs 2 1/2 lbs. at 8 weeks of age, it should be 7 1/2 lbs. when full grown.  I have been doing this long enough to know that this is not always the case.  This is however, the only tool we have to work with.  I usually use this formula, then add a pound to it, just to be safe.  Please don't ask me to guarantee that a pup will be under a certain weight when full grown, I will not do it.  If you visit another breeder who does so, they are simply not being honest, there is no way to be sure.

Q: Can I see the parents?
A:  Yes and No.  It depends who the parents are and
where they live.  My studs live with me, but most of my females live in homes on breeding contracts.  I certainly cannot ask my breeding families to have customers trudging through their houses to look at their dogs all the time.  I am working on getting photos of my females, so that will have to suffice.  Now, people often read on websites that you should always see the parents, and are upset if they cannot.  However, keep in mind, these pups are MIXES, and will not look like EITHER parent, so the value of looking at mom and dad is not the same when dealing with mixed breeds.  Also, just because mom weighs 7 lbs and dad weighs 4, does not mean the pup's adult weight will fall in between.  To see what some adult mixes look like, CLICK HERE

Q:  Does the dog have it's shots?  Has it seen the vet?  What is the health guarantee?
A:  Of course it does!  Your pup will leave her with any and all vaccines that are age appropriate.  Depending on how old your pup is when it leaves here determines how many more vaccinations it will require.  They generally get vaccines at 5,6,9,12, and 15 weeks.  So, if you buy a pup that is 12 weeks old, it only requires one more vaccines.  I also start all pups on Cedarcide, for flea control and Revolution for Heartworm prevention.  Pups are de-wormed every two weeks as well.  The only vaccine I cannot administer, by law, is the rabies vaccine, so this will have to be done by your vet prior to the dog reaching 6 months of age.  All pups will have been seen by my vet no more that 14 days prior to being sold.  Pups are guaranteed against contagious disease for 14 days from date of purchase.  Your Pup is guaranteed 2 weeks from the date of purchase against contagious illness, and 6 months for congenital or hereditary conditions. Q:  Is the pup spayed/neutered
A:  NO.  Pups are not old enough when they leave here.  Males should be neutered around  4 months, and females should be spayed around 6 months.  Of course, this is up to the discretion of your veterinarian, who may want to wait a little longer is the pup is especially tiny.  PLEASE spay or neuter your pup, plain and simple, they will live longer!  Many shelters have low cost spay/neuter programs available.

Q:  Is the pup housebroken?
A:  ABSOLUTELY NOT!!  Please, I have a hard enough time training my own dogs, let alone yours.  However, my pups are extremely easy to litter box train
(click here for more information on litter box training)

Q:  Is there a difference in personality between a male or female??  I don't want a male, they lift their leg and pee!
A:  Not really.  Within every litter, every dog seems to have their own personality, doesn't matter which sex.  Some more quiet, some more outgoing, some bark more, some less.  Sex really has nothing to do with it at all.  Male dogs do not life their legs and pee at all IF you neuter them, as you should, before they reach sexual maturity.  Most vets are neutering males at  weeks, so it is not an issue.  As soon as you spay or neuter you dog, sex is completely out of the equation and does not matter.

Q:  I have another dog at home, will it get along with the new puppy?  What about cats?
A:  I have never had an owner report that their older dog did not accept the new puppy.  Dogs know a puppy is a puppy and they get what is commonly called a "puppy pass"  If it is two adult dogs, there can be a problem sometimes, but not with a puppy.  The cat will usually have a more difficult time adjusting than the dog, but eventually, they will be friends.  The puppy will sniff the cat, the cat will swipe it's nose with it's claws, they will avoid each other for a while, then just learn to tolerate one another.

Q:  What do I need to get prior to bringing my dog home?
A:   1) Food- I sell food here, but you are welcome to order it ahead of time as well.  CLICK HERE TO BUY DOG FOOD

      2) Crate- The Midwest iCrate is the best one for the money.  Most of my pups will require a size small or medium.  You can purchase a crate at Petsmart, Petco, and most other pet stores.  CLICK HERE TO VIEW MIDWEST CRATES

      3) Bed or Crate Mat- Midwest makes fleece crate mats that are an exact fit to it's iCrates.  You can purchase these beds at Petsmart, Petco, and most other pet stores.   CLICK HERE TO VIEW MIDWEST BEDS

      4) Leash and Harness- HARNESS, NOT COLLAR!  If you wish your pup to wear a collar for decoration, that is fine, but NEVER walk your toy breed on a leash hooked to a collar.  Toy breed pups have very delicate tracheas, and they can be damaged easily.
